Have you tried exporting to rtf and then importing in word from rtf?
The other thing I have done is select-all copy and paste. Neither of these
work perfectly with all word processors, but they often work better than the
built-in conversion tools.
I've also used copy and paste to get frm Word to an html editing tool, and
gotten better results than exporting in html from Word.
