Rose,

I was the one who wrote,"I've seen humanities majors who saw tech
writing as a way to make a quick buck. They produced stuff that makes
Jabberwocky seem sensible. " I'd like to another word here.
[snip] And I was
writing about specific individuals I have known. So there was not
stereotype intended or implied.>>

Dick, please note that I was replying to Keith's post, not to yours. His
stated, "Will somebody PLEASE tell all the frustrated novelists that tech
writing is not a way to write while you 'pay the bills'?"

As a frustrated novelist who is also an excellent technical writer, I wanted
to counter the stereotype that could be misread from his words; that is,
*all* frustrated novelists are dilettantes as technical writers... being
like of all us, a person who wants recognition *and* to stay employed, I
don't want someone to run across a short story of mine and then, think,
"Hey, that's the same Rosie as wot applied for a job at my company. She
must be a frustrated novelist, thus a lightweight as a technical writer,
heh."

I didn't misread your post, Dick, as being implying stereotypes. I didn't
reply to your post. I replied to Keith's and you will notice that his post
is quoted in my reply so that all and sundry would know what I was goin' on
about.

(Confession: Actually, I meant to send it directly to Keith off-line.
Techwr-l behaves differently than all my other lists. When I first
resubbed, I found myself replying personally when I intended to go to the
list. Now, I am doing the opposite. DOH!)
