I've got to believe some of these job ads are created to attempt to
replace a specific resource that's leaving the company, who HAS those
skills. That would explain the seemingly arbitrary skill requirements.

Think of your own expertise, and how you would phrase an ad looking for
somebody who was basically your clone in terms of skills. Might be a
rather arcane list for some of us.

Might even have to loosen up a little on the requirements - maybe the
prospective applicants wouldn't HAVE to play bagpipes professionally.....
