Then, only brand new documents (written from scratch) are legitimate samples (in your opinion)? If I take an existing book, reorder the chapters to better reflect customer need, restructure and rewrite several chapters to improve clarity, and write a couple of new ones, only the new chapters are my work?
I don't agree. All of these tasks are legitimate technical writing tasks. Certainly a writer needs to be able to compose new technical prose. But that's NOT all we do.
