If the article is good, and you want a link that is going to last (unless
the WayBack Machine loses a generic court case over copyright infringement),
see if you can find a copy of the link via http://www.archive.org. I am
currently using this approach in an academic paper I am writing to ensure
stable links - where I include the Archive link as an alternative link in
square brackets. Their process takes an image of the whole HTML web - more
or less at a given point of time. Most links in the archived pages still
point to archived material they were originally linked to.
Note: it is possible for a site to prevent WayBack Machine's web crawler
from including their pages in the archive, and the archive policy says they
will remove any archived material if requested to do so.
In any event, about 95% of what I use reference links for can be found in
the archive - and this includes dead links from other Web pages.
WayBack is a MAJOR information resource which resolves many problems
relating to Web history vs Web present.
