Also remember timeliness. Links should be retested periodically. Being told
that there is more information out there, but then not being able to get to
it can do bad things to my blood pressure.
People on fan sites, etc. often link to newspaper pages. If the site is more
than a few months old, many of these links are no longer valid.
Newspapers tend to be very quick on the draw on taking dated material off
their active website (the theory in the newsbiz is -- there's nothing deader
than yesterday's news);
but I imagine that even many magazines withdraw older content from time to
time.
Also, sadly, we sometimes link to web sites whose supporting businesses are
gone.
