Hello All,
Looking for any conversion gurus out there.
How do I convert TIF images to OCRd, editable PDF?
Background (skip if you wish)
Typically, we scan paper producing a TIF image, which is converted to an
image+hidden text PDF. An image-only PDF is layed over an OCR profile. The
profile is stripped of all non-text elements, since the OCR engine will
interpret anything, even dirt. The final product is a clean, searchable PDF
document.
When we use the same process to produce an editable PDF, the OCR engine
misinterprets graphical and tabular elements. Rather than a hidden profile,
the OCR engine reads the visible PDF. We end up with a PDF that does not
resemble the TIF image. Words are recognized but misformatted, non-text
elements are interpreted as words.
This isn't a problem in a text editor, because you don't have to cross the
OCR bridge.
How can I scan paper to create an editable PDF?
Thanks,
Jeff Simon
