I'm neither a woman nor in a hiring position, but the detail of this question that stuck in my mind is the title "editor." Most of the responses I've read seem to be coming from a writer-centric point of view (understandable since this is a list of mostly writers).

IMO, experience and maturity are selling points for an editor. I think more writers are going to have trouble excepting the input of a snot-nosed kid than someone with gray hair. You're actually quite a bit younger than any of the editors I've ever worked with.

I don't suppose my question is out of line. I'm a 47-year-old editor with eleven plus years of editing experience (technical to marketing fields).

important. I would like to ask you women out there if you've run into bias because of age or the fact that your hair is gray. I would also like to ask any men on the list who are in hiring positions to weigh in on the matter.
