Our company has an add-in to our core software, which has its own user
guide. We are now going to market the add-in as an optional component of the main software, which has also has its own user's guide.

The product manager would like to find a way to combine both user guides into one guide. How would you proceed?

Pretty simple stuff, really. Just create distinct sections for each guide. Have an Overview (or About this Guide) section before the component sections. In the overview section, discuss the guide's design, and note that there are two separate components (with two distinct UIs, I assume).
