course based on a manual (that is in FrameMaker) and wonders about what
software to use.
Before worrying about what software to use for creating the course, you
should come up with a general idea of what you want the course to be:
* Are you just putting the manual on-line? (i.e., this is just a
page-turner)
* Will there be exercises for students? Do they complete the exercises in
the course, or are they directed to use the software you are teaching to
complete the exercises? If the exercises are performed in the software, you
might want to plan out one or two to have an idea of what might be involved.
* How will you visually demonstrate information? Still pictures (like from
the manual), screen-capture movies, animations or other simulations?
* Will you include tests/quizzes? Are these to measure learning? Are they
used to determine which parts of the course the student needs?
* Will you be tracking student progress? Can the login and come back to
where they left off?
* Will there be any interactions with other students or teachers? Will
people take courses at fixed times or whenever they want?
Once you know what you want your course to be, then you can investigate what
software can do what you want.
