James,

Adobe bought PageMaker from Aldus (or maybe they bought the whole company; I don't remember), several years and several versions ago. Any version you have that is labeled with the Aldus name is woefully obsolete and not subject to any sort of special upgrade pricing. If you want to update, you need to pay the full shot for the current version (7.0). Depending on what you need the software for, you may wish to look at Adobe InDesign instead. In any case, if you have publications prepared with an old version of PageMaker, you may not be able to open them with a current version, so you should check compatibility with Adobe support before you uninstall your old version.

That said, the user interface is fairly consistent between versions (except there are many more features now, and some major bugs have finally been resolved); so if you are comfortable using Aldus PageMaker, you will be in hog heaven using Adobe PageMaker.

Dick
