My first portfolio included two technical manuals I had written on a
free-lance basis and a program that my son wrote which I had commented, as
well as lecture notes I had presented to my algebra classes, newsletters
that I had written for various groups, and a t-shirt I had designed and worn
to a Seattle Mariners game back in 1996. (It was so subtly hilarious that
one woman almost fell off the upper deck laughing!). Although I hope that
the technical manuals got me the job, I was finally hired by the only person
who understood the t-shirt joke.

Include whatever you can, and be prepared to explain why each thing you
include is relevant to your experience.
