Acknowledged or not, I'd bet strongly that permissions were obtained. Publishers are notably skittish about lawsuits from deep pockets. When I did my Computer Certification Guide for Arco Press, I wanted to have shots of each "cover" page for a certification program's website. The lawyers told my editor I would need signed permission from each site to include the screen shot. Since we were running on some very tight deadlines, and I couldn't imagine trying to keep track of some 200 permission slips, we dropped that idea fast. 8-(

Valuable lesson, that.
