"mixing
ammonia and bleach, anyone?..."

OK, I confess to this one. I was trying to get some mud off of my son's
white tennis shoes, and had run out of laundry bleach. I used some
dishwashing detergent mixed with bleach (in the sink). Little did I know
that the "extra cleaning power" was a small amount of ammonia. A year or so
later, a warning label appeared on the dish detergent bottle, so I must not
have been the only one.

My favorite warnings: "Do not pour liquid into the VCR." and "Do not iron
clothes while wearing them."
