Hi,

I've searched the archives and though this was touched on once earlier this
year, it was different enough that I'm posting.

Does anyone know of how I can go about finding out how much to charge for
editing already translated documents? I've seen rates for translating
documents but not anything for just going through a document to make sure
the tenses and structure are all correct. I have an opportunity to get my
foot in the door at a company with some editing work. The company is based
in Sweden and while their English is excellent, the documents need help
before they are distributed to their new customers here in America. It's
mostly sentence structure and tenses. The documents range from very
technical to simple user's manuals but the subject matter is highly
technical and specialized so it's important the reader isn't distracted by
grammar issues.

I'd also love advice on whether to approach this on a per page or per hour
rate. My impression is that they have never done this sort of thing before
and will follow my lead (kind of like the blind leading the blind). One
suggestion from a friend was to charge what I'm being paid for at my current
job but there I create, write, do layout, and much more. I also was unsure
of how to compensate for the fact that I would be an independant contractor
and not an employee (taxes and all).
