It certainly seems we have two schools of thought on the union
issue. While skimming the posts I wondered if there is a correlation
between job satisfaction and one's feelings on unions.
Myself, I look at the prospect of a union and think "What's the
point?" I am very satisfied with my job responsibilities, workload,
and compensation (well, OK -- everyone would like a few extra
bucks, but...). If I have a problem, I go directly to my boss. If I
can't go to him, I'll go to HIS boss. Many of you may think I am
naive, but I don't feel there are any issues that would arise that I
cannot deal with myself. If problems are that serious then I don't
want to continue my employment anyway.
I suppose I feel secure because I work for a fair and ethical
employer (we have MANY employees who have been here 10+
years; quite a few for 20). I am also strong-willed and confident in
my abilities. I have the respect of management and my peers. I
think in my situation, a union would result in less job satisfaction,
not more.
