Our research indicates that the most likely person in a company to
commission a white paper is the head of marketing. Yet the most likely
person to write a white paper is a tech writer. And R&D input and approvals
are probably required. So by definition, white papers involve a team of
people drawn from different areas.

So why create a conflict where there doesn't need to be one? Why not work
together for the good of your company? You say this VP is creative and
intelligent. Why not talk to him, and work it out like two reasonable
people? Share your concern that you want the white papers to be technically
accurate, and offer your services to help ensure that.

P.S. I've done both technical and marketing writing for many years, and I
appreciate both. In fact, I headed up a Marcom department that was
responsible for both marketing materials and technical manuals, and no one
called me a "wacko" (at least within earshot.)

;-)

Good luck to you and your company.
