I've been laid off about five times and I pretty much had an idea it was
coming. I tend to link up with the "grapevine" in a company (such as
executive admins) or find the information centers. Being able to find out
things like this in advance give me a leg up on starting the search for a
new job while I am waiting to formally be let go. It doesn't always work
(such as the last time I was laid off), but I am usually aware when
unpleasant things are about to occur.
