John J. Gardiner (www.johngardiner.com) asked about depicting required
spaces in code. The pound sign (#) is used to indicate required spaces in
copy editors markup conventions. I have seen the # symbol used this way in
sample forms. John's example would then look like codecode#code##code###. It
is easier to see the number of spaces with # signs than with underscores.
