re: I have had no luck in retaining the formatting of text when performing
a "cut and paste" task from a Word (or any other package for that matter)
into a "text box" of a web-site.

It is not possible for the "user" of a Web page to determine the formatting
of text entered into text box elements of forms. Were you the author of the
Web page you could control this to some extent, but obviously bolding or
coloring of selected words and the like would still not be possible. The
purpose of HTML forms is data input, and there are very few if any instances
anywhere in the world of computing where data input is formatted by the
user, i.e. the one performing the input.
