Sometimes the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing. Sometimes
a company is
quite close to receiving extra funding, and doesn't want it known how
precarious their position
really is.

I'd hired two tech writers who started on the Friday before the Monday of a
company going out of
business. Even HR didn't know how bad things were.
