Funny thing. I can bring up the basic Character Map in Windows and see a
whole host of Cyrillic characters under Arial. I can set up Russian in Word
2000, and by pressing left Alt-Shift toggle into the Cyrillic keyboard I
can switch all the text to Arial. It shows up as Cyrillic. Just for the
heck of it, I thought I'd try copying it into PageMaker (I have 6.5), and I
found that worked, but only if I mapped the font to Arial CYR (which I
assume is the Arial font in Cyrillic). I did not purchase this font
separately, as I have no need for it at work. I also see I have Courier New
CYR and Times New Roman CYR, neither of which I purchased, so I assume
these came with something.

Perhaps these become options when Windows and Word are set up for Russian?
I followed the steps at
http://office.microsoft.com/Assistance/2000/OSetUpForLangs.aspx
http://office.microsoft.com/Assistance/2000/OEnableEditing.aspx
http://office.microsoft.com/Assistance/2000/OKeyboard.aspx

These steps did something beyond Office. Pressing left Alt-Shift in
PageMaker enables the Cyrillic mode there, too, and I then just had to
select Arial CYR (which I don't recall ever being there before!). You might
want to try it and see if you suddenly have access to things.

Note also I was unable to successfully import the text, but could copy and
paste it from Word.
