We have spawned a new sister company, which is currently only a development
organization. We provide marketing, tech support, and, of course,
documentation, for them.

The developers in this company want to use XML as theHelp format. I have
not heard anything about using XML as a Help format, and a search of the
techwr-l archives and a couple of Web searches have turned up nothing. I
figure that if anyone was doing any work on using XML in this manner, we
would have heard something, either on the list or from one of the HAT
develoeprs. Perhaps someone knows something I don't. I'm sure I'm not the
only that would like to hear about development in this area, if there is
any.

Bob,

As a source document it should work. You have to transform it into HTML and then compile the help with any of the usual suspects to create your HTMLHelp. I do not believe that "any" HTML help solution has even THOUGHT of using XML. I know that the strengths of XML make it very adaptable, and you could make a "smart" help system that could tailor the documentation online for the user's needs based on what they ask for.

But all of this is in the future. XML is not compatible with HTML help without being transformed. I would also check with the the HATT list on yahoogroups.com.
