TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
I would agree w/ other writers that the question is vague but I have
wondered about the impact of tech writing on my other writing.
I think perhaps the greatest benefit has been my effort to make the writing
more succinct. It seems fewer people make the time to read these days, so I
think less Is more. I get to use old journalistic skills (because getting
info from busy developers is like pulling teeth), so I think interviewing
skills have improved (enjoyably so).
I wonder if the analytical thinking process might be overdominating the
creative side of my brain. I'm afraid that in my experience in software,
creative thinking and appreciation for the arts does not seem very much
appreciated. It's a bit of a shame though.

Hi, all,
We've updated the TECHWR-L Poll with a new question:
Overall, does technical writing make you a better
writer?
* Yes
* I am not sure
* No
* Other/none of the above
(Thanks to Rowena Hart, whose 10/11 posting on
this topic inspired this poll question.)
