Exactly the opposite. When I listen to people talk, I
see it typeset. This goes back to at least 1963, the
year after I learned to read, because I remember
thinking about this phenomenon while riding in a car
my parents traded in that year. This is probably
related to synesthesia, the ability to see sounds as
colors and shapes.

What a surprise. The world is full of people who read
differently than I do. Evidently they are the
majority, and I never knew they existed (sorry,
guys!). I've never considered this stylistic
difference before, but I will now. It doesn't take
long to subvocalize or read aloud a paragraph; I don't
see reading all 600 pages aloud, but key points, yes.
