The question is whether...
Technical writers, with regard to grammatical issues:

* Should uphold the highest standards of proper use
* Should choose non-standard, common use as needed
* Other/none of the above

It seems to me that upholding the highest standards of proper
use necessarily involves choosing the non-standard, common
use as needed.

But isn't this subject inappropriate anyway according to
Eric's latest reminder?
