It is surprising that the 3rd party books don't have a chapter "dealing with
typical Word problems with longdocs". I'm new at this subject, but my Net
surfing this week reveals some standard techniques and tricks for using
longdocs -- things that I doubt are in the 3rd party Word books. What's
really needed is a Word book especially for longdocs, including:

o Bullets and numbering: using macro to define; avoiding dialog box
o Multifile page cross-refs
o Using master doc (always expect corruption; use backups) and referenced
doc field
o Conditional text techniques.
o Margin techniques.
o Linking to graphics rather than embedding them.
o Turn off Fast Save -- #1 file corruption cause.

Basically, how to force Word to behave more like FrameMaker, despite itself.

There are standard solutions, but they are not gathered together in one
place.
