I'm currently doing some research into how ID can help the TW. Basically I'm looking at the different stages in the writing process and how ID can help/be applied at each stage. I've never been taught ID as such but everything I've seen/read so far in the ID field (as applied to TW) seems to be common sense. What I'd like are opinions on the stages in the writing process (valid split?) I've chosen and where ID could be applied.

Stage 1 - Job assigned
We're told what needs to be done - User Manual, Web page etc. No ID here

Stage 2 - Research/collect data
Learn about the product - analyse needs; use product; interview users/SMEs etc. ID - user analysis; surveys; interview techniques etc

Stage 3 - Outline and Organise
Structure and layout of the document etc. ID - style, doc design, readability etc

Stage 4 - Graphics
Appropriate use of diagrams/pictures. ID - 'best use' of graphics - type, positioning etc

Stage 5 - Write
Create the words. ID - again style, structure etc

Stage 6 -Edit/Review
Self explanatory - no real ID used here?

Stage 7 - Deliver

All opinions welcome.
