I think have something interesting to add here...

It turns out Distiller comes with special text files that provide a means to join separate PostScript files into one PDF file. Look in Distiller's Xtras dir for Rundirex.txt and Runfilex.ps. The first one gloms a directory of files together, and the second one gloms a list of files together. Use either one, depending on how you want to control the order of the glomming. (They come with comments that explain their use.)

This is actually able to mix paper sizes in one PDF!

I believe the following will work to mix LETTER and TABLOID:

Assume page 1 is in LETTER paper size, and you use the Acrobat Distiller printer driver.

Set the paper size for the driver to LETTER, then print the first range of LETTER pages to a PS file.

Now you're at your first TABLOID page. Set the driver to TABLOID, then print the range of TABLOID pages to a PS file.

Lather, rinse, and repeat until you have a PS file for each contiguous range of pages-per-size.

Set up Rundirex.txt or Runfilex.ps to point to these files.

Distill Rundirex.txt or Runfilex.ps - whichever one you're using.

Tedious, but that should do the trick. If you're using FrameMaker and want to do this, I can automate it for you. I presume it can also be automated in Word via VBasic.

Cheers cud
