Fer cryin' out loud! You paid into unemployment, didn't you? If you're out
of work, either contract or otherwise, you're unemployed. Collect your own
money.

The laws of your state dictate eligibility. If you got a severance package,
you may not be eligible for the duration of that package. If you have or
take a part-time job (for example, teaching a night course), you may lose
your eligibility. (Go figger!) If you have a signed contract in hand, you
may not be eligible, even though you may not be working at that moment.

Bottom line, get thee to the unemployment office as soon as the pink slip
hits. They have some useful services. It's not as painful or embarrassing as
it used to be. It's a good place to find out what's available to you.

BTDTBTS.
