Unfortunately you cannot join the QPB unless you live in the US, so to most
of the world it costs more than that. <g>

My father owns the complete First Edition, and has promised to leave it to
me in his will. I was shortlisted for one of the editorial jobs on the Third
Edition, nearly 10 years ago now (didn't get through to the interview, but
beat out 90% of the applicants to do the aptitude test). It's one of the few
jobs that I didn't get that I still think about (mostly when they tell me
"No" I shrug and forget) but I *wanted* to be in on the Third Edition of the
OED!

The OED is available to me free online as a member of the QPB (Quality

Book) club, so yes, it's worth it. &;-) What kind of subscription are you
talking about?
