OS 10.1 (or is that OS X.I?) is supposed to ship with SMB networking built
in (SMB = Server Message Block, the foundation protocol of MS networking).

I can't send Jonathan an Office 10 message about OS X simply because one of
the joys of Mac-ing is doing without the problems caused by MS software (my
sole exception is IE, because the mac version is one of the most
standards-compliant browsers out there) but I've found X to be fast and
extremely reliable. (Why not? It's BSD with a friendly wrapper.) Apps not
native to it will run quite well (I'm sure there are some which don't, but
truthfully, I haven't found one yet). I'm not in it all the time, simply
because I can't burn CD's on the version I have. I'm waiting for the next
version before upgrading to it. Biggest drawback in running "classic" apps
is it takes forever to launch the first one.

Have fun,
