Thanks, everyone, for the input and the explanation. Several of you - both on
and off list - said, "DON'T GO THERE!!" concerning the multi-function.
Consequently, I went into rethink mode and will go with separate peripherals. I
appreciate the warning (the mutifunction features of the printers don't perform
as well as separate copiers/scanners/fax machines, etc., and if one part breaks
down....well, it ain't pretty), as the ramifications hadn't occurred to me (at
least, not yet). I now understand the difference between dpi and ppi, at least
enough to make a decision.

Again, thanks for the help!
