Greetings All,

I had posted yesterday:
> In the US, prayer too is not permitted in public.

To which Michael West responded:

I realize that my last comment was nonsense. At the moment, my head wasn't
screwed on straight. I regret including this last comment in my posted
message, and I thank those of you who brought it to my attention. Others
have responded as Michael to my comment and my answer has been similar to
this reply. Since this message is off topic (as was my last comment of my
post) and has nothing to do with technical writing, I will make any
additional replies to flaming off list.

The ideology behind the US foundation is one of the best that has ever
existed. I can honestly and really appreciate having the legal freedom to
express myself as I sometimes do, even when I stick my foot in my mouth. I
also realize that a line has to be drawn somewhere in order to accommodate
the majority, and that line is sometimes a hazy shade of gray and subject to
interpretation.

Religious liberty and public school prayer has created controversy in the US
over the years. Many public schools have banned group prayer and in some
cases, the courts have supported this ban. The intentions are good and
channeled towards respect for all religious faiths. Of course, there are
diverse views in support and against this issue. FYI, following are links
to several US court decisions limiting (public) school prayer and other
religious liberty cases:

We all need a kick in the butt when we step out of line. I will mind my
words (and passion) more carefully from now on. Thank you for your
tolerance.
