Au contraire.

If there is something in my experience and training that will assist
the communication process, then it is important to make the SME aware
of that.

If a SME is aware of my own background in mathematics, for example,
and an understanding of mathematics can facilitate the documentation
process, then we don't waste time going over basics that both the SME
and I understand. We don't waste my time; we don't waste the SMEs
time. It's a win/ win situation that benefits us and benefits the
client/ employer.
