Is it just my impression, or do North American Hi-Tech workers seem to
attach a large amount of importance to their job titles?
Well, I've always thought so.
I don't even buy the idea that the title is important when you go job-hunting. No matter what your job-title, your resume should show what you did at each job anyway. If you include "set production schedule for documentation" and "supervised other writers," for example, it's obvious that you are experienced in the field even if your title wasn't Senior Technical Writer.
Conversely, if your resume doesn't make your duties clear, you need to rework it.
