Hello whirlers,

Here's another terminology question. I'm documenting a GIS-type interface. One of the
functions allows the user to find a particular point (a feature such as an airport, a
radar installation, etc.) on a map by specifying the point's identifier, then clicking a
Locate button. The Locate function pans the map view so that the specified point is
centred in the map window, then a red circle is displayed which diminishes in size over a
period of about a second as it homes in on the point. My current draft description of the
Locate function is:

"The Locate function centres the selected feature in the map window and then draws your
attention to that point by momentarily displaying a shrinking red circle centred on the
point."

My question is: Can anyone suggest a name for the diminishing red circle? The developer
of the function doesn't have a name for it, and terms such as "highlight", "target"
and "bullseye" don't seem to quite fit.

Target seems to fit.

Keep it simple and understandable. ;-)

Scott
