Its not a lie, its a range. Lying is saying you made an exact number that
isn't true. This is just working inside grayness. Nothing wrong with that.
You may debate the SCALE of that grayness, but the principle still holds.


Furthermore. if you say the number $32,000 to an HR person or a recruiter
- guess where the negotiations will begin?

At $50,000 what you really want? No way.

At $23,000, possibly.

At $32,000, most likely.

The "other factors" argument is almost as lame as the "total compensation"
argument. It just makes you look like you're grasping for straws. Talk
numbers and don't try to justify the situation. Nobody is going to
remember that you said you had a nice office and could telecommute. They
are going to remember that you said $32,000.
