I've never had an agency low ball my salary. I have had full-time employers
do that. My last full-time employer brought meaning to the words income
deferral to the table with their stock option offer. And, over three years,
those options only made up for the deficient wage. Yes, my total
compensation was much larger, but being short was more expensive.

Don't accept deals that don't pay you enough to live on comfortably.
Discount stock options heavily.

I always lived comfortably on my contracting wages.
