Kevin asks, "So, now I'm wondering if any of the rest of you ever
takes it upon yourselves to explain/annotate such
boilerplate text in your user docs."

A while ago, I took on the task of making our privacy policy readable. My
goal was an 8th grade reading level, and a reading ease of 60. I never
quite got there, but came close.

Our lawyer threw the whole thing out, saying that if it had to be unreadable
to meet legal requirements. (I really did very little changing of the
language...I mainly broke up a few long sentences, and changed "the user" to
"you".)
