Hi all,

Ive just started a new job and my manager has posed an interesting question:
Is there one software tool that can be used for developing printed manuals
that can easily be converted to PDF and online help? I couldn't think of
any. If anyone know of any software that can do this, drop me a note.
Currently we are using MS Word to create printed manuals and the online help
is being hard-coded in html.

Thanks for any help!

Tool wars now approaching.

It is hard to find one software tool that does all things equally well. Here is one solution.

Adobe FrameMaker fits the first requirement, printed manual and integrated (excellent) PDF generation from the source files.

ForeHelp will round trip FrameMaker MIF files. MIF2GO will also make help files from FrameMaker MIF files.

Quadralay WebWorks will also do the same. WebWorks is currently bundled with FrameMaker, though you need to purchase the full version in order to change the templates to let you produce output in your particular manner.
