This was a hard one for me to choose. Right now I'm writing about hardware.
And it's service as much as a product. I didn't study hardware in college,
and I've been learning more each day about how the innards work. So I picked
competent beginner.
But at a previous job, I moved from tech support (the lead support for
Software A) to tech writer. I was the end-all knowledge base of info-- from
bugs to features to "how to's".
I've been just about every where in between those two situations. I think
one thing I like about starting a new job is that I'm usually not the
end-all knowledge base of info, so I get to learn. I think tech writing is
partly my way of being a perpetual student, but getting paid for it.
