I worked for several years in Venezuela as an independent documentation
consultant and technical translator with a local industrial consultant. Our
clients never understood the term "technical writer". Depending on the
contract and my role, I was referred to as the "Organization & Methods
Analyst", the "ISO 9000/QA Facilitator", or "el traductor". My designation
would change from project-to-project, but my function as a technical
writer/process analyst was the same.

The closest term to "technical writer" in Spanish is "redactor técnico"
which usually pertains to journalism. This function is much different from
technical writing in business.

Have a great day!
