I generally hate "best viewed with" labels on pages, and strongly support
the "best viewed with any browser" approach: http://www.anybrowser.org/campaign/
But one response to the issues you raise would be a big fat label saying:
Best viewed with any browser **except** IE 6 and above.

If you're feeling nasty, give IE users only that text.
