The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
Yeah, that was my first thought... if I were one of John's agency contacts, and 25 wannabe writers with no qualifications showed up on my doorstep, I wouldn't say "thank God for the person who provided all of this fabulous word-of-mouth advertising."
(No, I don't know that they're all unqualified hacks. I made that up. And if you want to say they're all fabulous people and the recruiter will be thrilled to hear from them, that's great, but you're making it up too.)
The person who asked you for this information should have been more upfront about his intentions. I would have been miffed as well.

And if one or more of the pople who contact the agency are idiots and
when the agency is pissed that someone who was refered to them was
given a position, only find out that they were refered by me (though
i didn't know it), does that do me any good for the credability of my
next reference?
