:: We have been producing only hard copy books and online Help
:: systems. We
:: have traditionally charged our customers for the hard copy
:: books. We are
:: thinking of producing books on CDs or providing some online
:: access method.
:: Does anyone have experience with pricing online delivery of
:: books? If so,
:: is there a standard way of calculating these costs?
Remember that they are paying for the intellectual property and not the
medium it comes on...
If you want to figure the cost of shipping a CD of online documentation,
take a rough estimate of $0.18 (US) for the CD, $0.22 for the jewel case,
$0.83 for the insert and inlays, and $X for the postage.
But, I maintain, they are paying for the intellectual property, even if it
*is* for a product they bought.***
***If your documentation shipped in some form with the product, than you
have every right to charge whatever you deem fair for extra doc sets. If
this is the only way your customers get documentation of any kind, well,
then I have reservations about charging them at all...
