Trouble importing Word file in Frame?

One problem might be graphics, since Word does various things to abuse
graphics files (see the ongoing discussions on techwr-l over the past few
weeks). Have you tried deleting the graphics before doing the import, then
reimporting them manually once you've got the text safely into Frame?

couldn't duplicate it. We have tried sectioning the doc (20pp) to no avail.
We tried importing by copying to file, importing by reference, or opening
the Word doc in FM: nada>>

A few other thoughts. First, try saving the file in RTF (rich text format)
and importing that. You'll lose some style information, but not enough to
really hurt. Second, select all of the Word document except the final
paragraph marker (make the paragraph markers visible if you can't see this),
copy the selected text, and paste it into a new Word document. Save the file
under a new name, then try importing the new file into Frame; Word saves a
variety of garbage at the end of its files ("in" that paragraph marker, sort
of), and that's a common source for corruption. Third, if all else fails,
you can simply use the mouse to select and copy text, then past that into
Frame. You'll lose much of the formatting information, but at least you'll
be safely in Frame.

I assume that you've disabled Word's "Fast save" feature? If not, do so at
once, rip out the portion of the manual that describes this feature, and
never use it again. Documents saved using "Fast save" are the surest way to
choke a file translation or import filter.
