This is a very interesting question -
I agree with most posts regards engineering - with a foot in Support,
Training and Marketing - Excellent for feedback and later additions of
content - although on this contract I am considered to be a programmer /
Developer but only on help Content - Thus part of the unseen development
team.
This is a very unusual contract - In fact the most difficult (personnel wise
not content ) with constant contradictions.
Some Background- Although the contracted TW with a staff of 4 - I have no
say in the way the help is to be designed only the contents - Don't ask
why -( I am the relief writer - Previous TW upped and said enough is
enough) - with very flexible guide lines controlled by a lose cannon of a
programme manager. The only fixed thing has been the delivery date 22
une - The Help Content consists of On line help and Related published
Documents (which will be the base line for Training , User and Systems
Guides), (starting from the TOC which is still under development as is the
contents, although most headings are in place - I am Enforcing a cut off of
date for the 11 June so as to ensure at least some stability.)
I have been demoted from Team Lead, to slave, to being fired to be rehired a
few minutes later, to being promoted all within a space of a few days. Only
to be replaced by another TW for a period of 4 days whilst on full paid
leave - before being "invited" back to complete a totally redesigned
impractical Help structure. Which I am forbidden to change but can "tweak
!!"
In 24 years of work I have never been on a project which is so totally out
of touch with the established norms - Why am I still here - Why the money of
course - and that I am relocating to Toronto end August (only another 90
days and less but who is counting ?) So Hi to New Friends in Toronto - So if
a few established hands could contact me off line I would be grateful.
Why this mail - to blow off steam and as a warning not all projects will be
successful despite your best efforts.
