I couldn't agree more but offer we may be fighting a losing battle. While
perhaps not strictly meeting the definition of TLA, I've noted working at
this laboratory that scientists and engineers apparently possess a seemingly
universal desire to name products and processes with catchy word titles. I
sometimes wonder whether there are courses for this. See ...

Then there's FALCON, which isn't an acronym at all, just a made-up name:

There are good and bad examples here, and sometimes I think a name is a good
idea.
