The embedded jpg could very well suffer from the same problems. The print
spooler file was smaller as most spools compress bitmap data using RLE
encoding or "picture compression", whereas word's "here's my RIPped image"
is uncompressed. The repeated references bit - I vaguely remember coming
across some extremely technical solution for that on the MS knowledgebase.
Also, check out autotext insertion - you MAY be able to get away with just
one instance of the "picture info" (it'll still be horrendous mind) but it
gets referenced to the autotext entry unless you mod it.
Someone posted a registry fix to avoid the RIPped bitmap creation just the
other day but I couldnt find it :-(

QUESTIONS:
1. Would using a high-res jpeg have saved substantially on the file
size?
2. Is there any way to persuade Word to store a single copy of a graphic
and make repeated references to it--within one file (not interested in
linking)?
